Beeswax Candles

Beeswax Candles

Beeswax candles are easy to make and can be used in so many ways. Personally, we use them in case we have a power outage and store them for emergency use.

Ingredients

  • 12 once large tulip jar
  • 1 pound of beeswax
  • ½ cup of coconut oil melted
  • 1-2 tablespoons of essential oil. (Peppermint and lemongrass has a better stronger smell than other essential oils)
  • Medium cotton wicks with wick tabs attached
  • Wick stickers
  • Wood chopstick
  • Pencil or Clothespin
  • Double boiler (see instructions down below if you don’t have that)

Directions:

  1. Pick up the wick with the wick tab attached, and wick stickers. Pull the wick stickers off the roll and place them on the wick tab. Peel the paper off the exposed side of the wick sticker.
  2. Attach the wick to the center bottom of the jar.
  3. Melt wax, and oil in a double boiler, or if you don’t have a double boil place a smaller pot in a bigger pot that is filled with one inch of water. Bring the water to a low simmer.
  4. When beeswax is melted, add the essential oil. Use a wooded chopstick to mix.
  5. Pour the wax into the jars.
  6. Center the wick by having a pencil, or our favorite clothespin to hold the wick up.
  7. Place the candles in a warm area to harden. You don’t want them to harden too quickly because the candle will crack. A cool hack is to preheat the oven to 170F then turn the oven off and place them inside.
  8. Allow your candles to cure for two days, then trim the wick to about ¼ inch.

Enjoy your candles!
