Beeswax Swarm Lure

Beeswax Swarm Lure

Want to catch your own swarm this year? Try using our very own recipe for a swarm lure! We have used this in the past and have had some great luck with it! The beeswax and lemongrass scent attracts the queen and the hive. Try it out today!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of beeswax
  • ¼ cup of olive oil
  • 40 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • Tin can

Directions:

  1. Melt the beeswax, and olive oil in a double boiler, or if you don’t have to get a measuring cup and pot. Add an inch of water to the pot and place the measuring cup in the middle of the pot. Put the heat on medium and mix them well together.
  2. Remove the measuring cup from the water, and heat. Add the lemongrass essential oil to it and mix well.
  3. Pour the mixture into the tin can. Let it cool for 1 hour, or until it hardens.

How to use:
Smear a tablespoon of the swarm lure to the back of a harvest lane honey deep brood box. Set the Harvest Lane Honey deep brood box in the shade, which should be on a hive stand so it's not on the ground. Wait for the swarm. (It may take hours, days, or weeks. Depends if there is a swarm of bees that is near.)
